On a plain white 15 oz ceramic coffee mug, a cross-armed engineer, a machine losing springs and a scowling cloud with a clipboard sit beside “Tested It Twice. Reality Had Notes.” For the engineer whose second test was not the last. No tint, just the art.

Plain white is the whole background on this coffee mug. An engineer in glasses stands arms crossed beside a machine coughing out springs, and a storm cloud with a scowl holds up a clipboard of red X marks. Turn the mug and the line is in blue and red letters, the cloud still underneath with its notes. Bench, machine, bad news.
Engineers sign off the test plan and then meet the real world. This one suits a birthday, a graduation or the day the prototype finally ships. White mug, gray cloud. Somebody in the review meeting has seen that clipboard before.
